  JW's view on patriotism

  my sister is a jw .

  i studied with the witnesses at the same time as she but i questioned too many of thier belkifs that didn't make sence to me so they gave up on me.. my christian church does allow patriotism.

  we feel god gave us this land( america) and are forever grateful to him.

  one of the things I liked and still admire of JWs is their lack of patriotism.

  before I was-- CONvi N c ED --that JWs were the right religion, It seemed to me a real universal god would not have

  one particular nation or family as his only ones...that any group claiming to represent such a being would have

  to have transcended such gorilla like tribalisms and clan loyalities.... now free of the BORG collective, I still

  see value in transcending team loyalites, my country right or wrong BS.... I find no merit in such views as

  my country love it or leave it.

  as to the US, I find its strength is in its ideal of allow people to pursue their own happiness, which is despite the government, not because of it. the US government was originally set up with people who did not trust government and did not want anyone to trust it...those who believe in patriotism are the enemies of this concept.

  How did you feel when you learned it was all a lie?

  bit of background.

  i grew up as a jw i left the church when i was 14 because a ministerial servant who was conducting a one on one baptism study with me said that i couldn't ballance my dreams of being a professional singer with the so called "truth".

  i stopped the study and told my mom i no longer wanted to be a witness.

  I felt relieved to be free of a dark oppression of the mind that had been engulfing me like a fog....

  I dont understand those of you who were and are still angry.... at who? those who are in are believers as you once were...

  are you angry at yourself?

  sure, some may suspect its all a con job, but then so did we before we were clear enough in our own mind to leave....would you blame yourself?

  you ever notice how people like to open up a part of themselves to the board.

  i think all these many different people from different backrounds but all sharing a common bond,, to be a good thing.

  i do feel a group like this would be worthy of a psychologist's attention.

  when studying the effectiveness of psychology, most studies found that 1/3 got better, 1/3 got worse and 1/3 stayed the same

  which turned out to be no different from seeing a good friend rather than a psychologist.... so sure, groups like this can be very beneficial to 1/3

  in connection with a recent post by blondie, i wondered what everyone's blood type was on the forum.

  a couple of years ago, i wondered what mine was and contacted my hospital that has my records.

  lets say some god exists, always has....and just for fun, lets assume s/he is really all knowing... that would mean that for all of eternity this being has always known exactly what would happen and could find no reason nor power to alter what s/he always knew... does not sound very almighty to me.... People want a super being who can do anything including totally contradict other aspects of its own being... by saying god can do anything, but already knew what s/he would do even before there was any point in knowing it is a bizzarre mental trap which only leads to the insanity that this very god damns his own creation for being exactly what he eternally knew they would be...by comparison to what s/he always knew was an eternal lie....an ideal s/he always knew had nothing to do with the true reality s/he always knew.

  why could this god not stop this woman from hacking up her baby, simple, he always knew it would happen and of course because he knew it, there was no reason to change it.... and if he could change it, how did he know it? since it would have never happened as he would not have allowed it to happen even before he made anything.... most do not comprehend the paradoxes and sheer idiocy of the god they imaigne existing.... a being whose sole purpose in existance must surely be to find a way to kill itself.

  Being Part of the Community

  last night, my hubby & i were discussing the upcoming meet-up being held here.

  my husband's never been a jw (or involved w/religion for that matter).

  and to be perfectly honest, although he's put up w/my online activities, and occasional f2f gatherings, he's never been 100% completely comfortable with it.

  we are essentially domesticated primates and like all primates there are natural tendancies to be part of a tribe or pack or group.

  there seems to be a general trend according to one book I read called ROGUE MESSIAHS that about 21 people will cluster around an alpha male. it has been my experience that the outer most three or so tend to be camelons or loners who people come to see as either traitors, collaborators or something else....

  our underlying world view seems highly programmable and what our family life was as a child seems to determine a great deal about our assumptions about belonging.... our peer group growing up has even more influence so if we were part of a large peer group we will likely feel a vacancy when we are not part of one later.

  plainly religion takes advantage of this pack mentality.

  NEW: Review of the circuit assembly. Darn!!!

  so, not only do i have to greatly sacrifice mentally by going to the darn assemblies 3x yearly, but now they've made it so that you have to pay attention and take notes because there'll be a review with questions and answers at the following meetings.. gosh, the mind control never stops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  Once an elder tried to coerce me into answering by calling on me. A brother? handed me a mic. I took it and said, "I didn't have my hand up." The elder says, "Answer anyways." I says "NO!" and gave the mic back to the brother?.

  reminds me of a story, which I was not there to see, so may be a JW urban legend, but I was told it actually happened:

  an old bother had a habit of nodding off at the meetings so one cute elder thought it would be fun to call on him as he dozed....

  the old guy woke with a start and when given the mike, closed with prayer

  on fairly short notice silentlambs sent out an advisory to the public that jehovah's witnesses were once again going to court to speak as character witnesses for a convicted pedophile.

  earlier in the week on monday a large group of jehovah's witnesses had made known their intention to come to court as they had for the last two years to publicly support and offer character statements for a man convicted on several counts of molesting his daughters.

  you forget a faithful witness believes that Jehovah's spirit guides the elders and if they reinstate, then it is Jehovah who has done it... and cannot be doubted without serious consequences.... dont you remember?

  Weird DREAMS ...

  .... weird dreams.

  i'm afraid to think that some particular dreams have a meaning, it's like my intuition talking to me.

  i do not always understand their meaning from the start, but later it happen that i can see exactly what they meant (one lately was quiet interesting to realised about the why's and the what exactly).

  dreams are a combination of several things.

  1. emotional hot spots in your memory system

  these can be caused by --- unfinished business --- regrets ---fading memories bothering you for completion.

  2. things happening around your body while you sleep being incorporated into the dream in progress....

  example, I once dreamt of a man laughing his butt off for no reason... when I woke up there was a dog barkin in the distance which sounded a bit like the man's laughter.

  3. the twilight zone, there may be hidden data channels in the what if along which may be accessible during dreams...who knows? but I have met dream entities which are just as real as those I meet here and now....some have lied to me, some have played games on me, all of them have violated my expectations.

  Dreams often move by associative steps besides cause and effect... meaning that a word or idea links to another and another and that is why what seems bizzarre after waking seemed perfectly normal while dreaming.

  I once walked into a bank in a dream...the bank doors looked like supermarket doors and so I found myself in a check out line in the grocery store, I looked up and saw pipes running along the wall which reminded my of a factory and when I looked down, I was in a factory...etc
